Pro-Ject – A Pioneer of the Analogue Audio Revival

At a time when compact discs had almost completely replaced vinyl records, Austrian entrepreneur Heinz Lichtenegger founded Pro-Ject Audio Systems in 1991 with a clear vision: to build high-quality, European-made turntables at affordable prices and keep analogue music alive. Today, Pro-Ject is widely recognised as one of the key brands behind the global revival of vinyl records. 

Since the launch of the original Pro-Ject 1, the company has focused on simple, precision-engineered designs free from unnecessary features that could compromise sound quality. Most Pro-Ject turntables are still handcrafted in the Czech Republic, while the brand's electronics are manufactured in Slovakia, ensuring that production remains entirely within Europe. 

Pro-Ject products are engineered with particular attention to vibration control, rotational accuracy, and upgradeability. The company develops precision tonearms made from aluminium and carbon fibre, uses acrylic and aluminium platters, electronic speed control systems, and carefully engineered bearings. Many turntables are factory-fitted with premium Ortofon cartridges, while their modular design allows users to upgrade components over time. 

Over the years, Pro-Ject has expanded beyond turntables to include phono preamplifiers, amplifiers, streamers, CD transports, and loudspeakers. Despite this growth, the company's philosophy remains unchanged: to design long-lasting, European-made Hi-Fi products that deliver outstanding value and authentic musical performance. Today, Pro-Ject is regarded as one of the world's leading names in analogue audio.
